25x American Bullfrog tadpoles from Toledo Goldfish shipment released May 2022
Mallard Duck
Went out with a focused LED headlamp at last light + 30 minutes to clear the slight auxiliary pump blockages that seem to get worse every 3-5 days. Mainly groups of snails per usual, but I did find what appeared to be about half of a bullfrog tadpole stuck on a complete blockage of the pump on the evening of 7/21, so we are definitely -1. I did pull a large algae growth back towards the waterwheel zone. As I was clearing out the pump, I spent about 3 minutes scanning all surfaces of the pond. I found 1 set of frog eyes in a large fairy moss clump about 1 foot from the auxiliary pump basket. He moved when I was cleaning the pump. I couldn't see his body; however, I did find a frog body near the main pump zone at 5 feet. I would leave the area for 15-30 seconds with the focused light & come back. He began moving around, and he was a much larger tadpole at this point. He had all 4 legs, and his legs were becoming very substantial. So, a small victory tonight. It is a maze of green algae & small snails amongst the 60-80 water lily pads. The water lily pads are going through a pad rotation & new ones are being sent up. I can see our new pair of water lilies are sending up substantially larger pads than it had in its quarantine bin for a month. The entire surface of the pond should almost be covered by water lilies after a few more years of root growth & spreading. We will need to evaluate pulling out the main pump in the early Fall to clean it, inspect it & place back into service. I have not physically seen the main pump since July 2021. Overall, an incredible change in one year. This will be a cool place to hang around in the future.
The backyard neighbors completed their white PVC fencing project today. I think it will help us focus on ourselves & our own backdrop more. This is even more important now than I work from home.
We will move Dad's Garden LED strip back to just behind the Pond of Tranquility for power monitoring & pattern testing (building a good demo).
Our shed's 100Ah battery & 100w panel will simply not re-charge fast enough to sustain it, long-term. So, we'll move the idea to this zone. This is because we already have 120V in outdoor, waterproof boxes here for the water pumps. LED lighting at night would make it even better, I think. Certainly makes it a brighter zone at night. We'll have it turn off at midnight & maintain the same schedule it had in Samsung SmartThings in Dad's Garden.
